What do the words "only human" mean to you?

To me, it means that at our root, we are all the same. Our very base is human. On top of that we have all of our other identities, personalities, responsibilities, etc. But at the heart of it, when you strip all that down, we are all human. All flawed, all unique, and all on this earth together.

What are you passionate about?

I’m passionate about many things. I’m passionate about helping others get back to themselves and regain their independence as a physical therapist. I’m passionate about getting outside and experiencing nature. I really strongly believe in making connections. I am very introverted and reserved, but when I do interact with people I want those interactions to be meaningful and worthwhile. I’m also passionate about tolerance and acceptance of differences. We live in a world that has continued to be divisive, and I want to help eliminate biases and help others understand that we shouldn’t be prejudiced towards anyone, nor should we treat them differently for who they are.

What makes you the happiest?

Being outside in nature makes me happiest. But so does long and deep discussions about anything and everything with close friends. Helping someone by making their day easier.

In the last five years, what new belief, behavior, or habit has most improved your life?

I have made it a habit to speak my mind more. If I see someone has posted a photo and I think they look happy or beautiful or anything I make a point to comment and share that. When I see someone saying something that may have racist undertones or homophobic undertones or anything that is offensive, especially if it subtle, to make a point to educate them on why that may be offensive, and how they can change. I spent a lot of time keeping these thoughts to myself, which helps no one. And now I feel as though I am making little differences in those around me.

How do you keep yourself positively inspired during overwhelming times?

I get outside in nature. I get some sunshine and fresh air and take a break from the news and staring at a screen. It reminds me that there is still good things in the world, and that not all is negative or stressful, and it also helps me slow down and breathe. I also burn off extra stress by working out.

If you could spend a day in someone else’s shoes, whose would they be? Why?

I think I would spend them in my partner’s shoes. She has such a bright and positive outlook on life, and is so open and welcoming for others. I would love to be able to see things from her perspective and really truly make someone’s day by being that genuine.

What book (or books) have greatly influenced your life?

The Harry Potter series showed me to be tolerant of everyone, and to always find the light within the dark.

What’s your favorite quote?

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

What would be your advice to a human who just graduated from high school and was about to enter the "real world"?

Take a deep breath and know that while it may seem overwhelming, we have all been there. Everyone around you that you think has it “together” is also struggling. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself to be perfect, but take it day by day. And if you have questions, just ask. Most people are willing to lend advice or a helping hand if you’re brave enough to ask.
