My coming out story:
I had my first girl crush at the age of 7 and many more followed. I grew up in & out of foster care, so I didn’t know how to come out and life was so filled with adverse experiences. I was with a woman for 3+ years in my early 20s. I had a drinking problem at the time, so the relationship ended & I went into a phase of denying who I was for years. I got married…. twice… I have 3 beautiful children from my second marriage. I got divorced this year. I came out very publicly at 39… I was so nervous. I’ve had people questioning, doubting, and yelling gay slurs at me since the day that I came out…. yet, even still, after much patience, strength, and persistence I MET SOMEONE THAT SHOWED ME A WHOLE NEW LEVEL OF LOVE. SHOWED ME THAT I AM WORTHY AND SHOULD NEVER SETTLE. SHOWED ME THAT SELF-LOVE IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS GIVING LOVE. THE PEOPLE THAT REALLY MATTER HAVE BEEN SO SUPPORTIVE. MY KIDS, MY CLOSE FRIENDS, COLLEAGUES, THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY AND MANY OF YOU. It means the world to me and I’m thankful for you and to FINALLY be living my truth at the age of 38.
